Consumer Units

Modern consumer units, also known as fuseboards, form the backbone of every domestic and commercial electrical installation. It is the item responsible for distributing electricity to circuits throughout your home using different types of fuses. The traditional fuse boards are being phased out and replaced by the modern equivalent due to modern regulations.

RCD's (Residual Current Device) are potentially lifesaving devices. As a result, all modern household appliances will have one or more RCD's. You can use these to protect yourself from Electric Shock if a bare wire is touched, or if you damage a cable with the lawn mower, which is more common in the garden.

To replace or remove your fuse board, you must be certified and qualified to the Part P standards in order to perform the work. You must never attempt this work unless you are a certified and qualified electrician.

An electrical installation condition report is strongly recommended prior to any consumer unit replacement, to determine the current electrical setup. It is important that your existing installation wiring is in good shape before starting the replacement of your consumer unit.
